Our largest city was fair pumping! What a happy feeling good time vibe Auckland was exuding when we arrived. Personally, Rosie have never seen Auckland so busy, New Zealand turned on the fine -ish weather and started the party of our lifetime that everyone cant help but be into. The Rugby World Cup was in town, flags were flying from cars and hung in every shop, the fanzone on the waterfront was pumping and people walked the streets with a ready greeting and colourful shirts showing every nationality and allegiance.
Even Rosie, nonchalant, ignorant ruby non starter was buzzed and excited, it was contagious!
The waterfront was excellent, the giant rugby ball showing fans the history of our nation and the game (arrived a little late to get the last showing) was packed out. The Cloud was inspirational in its design and construction, how did they transform that area and put that up so quickly?….and the fanzone was full of beer drinking supporters…..mind you I think times have changed, the wine glasses present were 50/50 to a stubby….I can kind of see how they would need party overflow areas, even though there was alot of room, there wasn’t….just with the way things were laid out.
We followed the footsteps on the footpath that led supporters from the waterfront on the trail to Eden Park, every step of the way laid out for the tourists who did not know the city, on every street corner were stationed information people to answer your questions on how to get places, it was bloody brilliant. We put them through their paces but they couldn’t tell us where Al Browns new restaurant Depot was, we were looking in the Britomart, so, after a quick call to our gastro guru HM, aptly corrected and directed (plus a wee tip on what wine to order and the faves on the menu) we headed for the shadow of the SkyTower.
