Driving through Horopito we see the sea of rusting car bodies spread before us.  This is one of the biggest vehicle wrecking yards in the country and has featured in locally made movies such as Smash Palace which was filmed in and around the yard.  It looks fantastic, the rusting corpses slowly returning to the earth after spending a short usefulness on earth…..
 

Rosie is not really a winter sports person, too wet and cold…plus if I fell down I would never be able to get up…I can imagine my body rolling down the mountain side and the snowball getting bigger and bigger, the stuff of nightmares….Rosie is more suited to a nice glass of mulled wine in front of a roaring lodge fire sitting looking at the side of the mountain through a huge picture window

A cute collection of colourful Bach’s gives way to more luxurious abodes. The tide was nearly in and this made the estuary very pretty in the yellow light, lush grasses and mud flats were alive with bird life and information boards are placed around the walkway to give you an insight into what you might see out in the water. The river mouth was ugly and utilitarian….but the estuary had a peace and tranquillity about it that was beautiful.
