Malaga Spain is where Rosie is staying for one month when The Operator goes back to New Zealand for work. This city is home to 600,000 people on Andalusia’s Costa del Sol and even though it’s a popular European holiday resort town Rosie can already tell it has multiple layers.

Granada is home to 233,000 and has a real old town feel to it with the Darro river running along side the oldest street in the town. The Carrera del Darro hasn’t changed much in look since the first houses and bridges were built in the 15th Century.

Cordoba has an old town of two halves, one is a rabbit warren of skinny, whitewashed, shady alleyways dripping with flowers from balconies and potted plants clinging to the walls. The other side of Cordoba is a town of large beige stone monuments that hover over and dominate the orange tiled rooftops. You can feel the warmth radiating off the stone and feel the hum of history when you touch these ancient blocks.

The Fes Medina Leather Tannery…you smell them long before you see them. The sharp, acrid, nose hair shriveling stench of piss….aged piss, that is, ripened by the sunshine.

Wandering around the narrow labyrinth that is the 1200 year old Fes Médina you come across the most amazing buildings built into the warren of alleyways. These buildings are mosques, museums and schools, sitting side by side with shops, workshops and homes.

Walking through the inner gates into the Medina proper, the gates that Rosie was so apprehensive to enter yesterday the change is immediate. Everything closes in and around on you, the light dims as you enter the covered alleys where the buildings are so tall overhead they start to block the light.
