Big open fields of long grass and wildflowers surround us, then sheer walled forested mountains rear up so straight and tall like a boundary on the horizon.  The hint of greatness was there, the moving cloud and swirling mist giving a taunting outline as to the sheer enormity of the mountain top that we couldn’t see.

Garmisch-Partinkirchen – Castle Linderhof & Zugspitze

The sky is showing bits of blue, the cloud has lifted and the tops of the glorious alps are dwarfing and surrounding us with sheer cliffs, it is an amazing sight.  Rosie and The Operator are going to visit the Zugspitze, the highest point in Germany and Castle Linderhof, preferred home of the crazy Bavarian King. The big question.  Which site to visit first.  Castle Linderhof and beat the crowds of other tourists? Or, wait till abit more of the cloud burns off to get a better view when we are up at the Zugspitze lookout?

Neuschwanstein Castle – No Tour, Photos Only

We get off the bus and scuttled for the bridge while the tour group are gathering themselves…we stand on the rickety wooden bridge and we are alone to savour the view…. for 3 mins…..no one else would have got that one on one time for the rest of the day! It was breathtakingly beautiful, the bridge is located above a deep gorge ravine and looks down onto the side of the castle.  The morning light was playing on the village in the distance and the sky looked beautiful. it was a perfect vista.  This is what all the fuss is about.

It was market day today and stalls were set up in the church square, it was lively and colourful, the church itself is red brick and cafes and bars line the perimeter, chairs and tables were out and everyone was already enjoying the  early morning sun. 
There were more people drinking beer at 10.00am then there was drinking coffee!

Avergne France – Chateaux Maulmant

Back in the room, we opened the huge windows onto the balmy night and sat on the windowsill.  You could still smell the freshly cut grass and the huge white Charolais cattle (found that out from my menu) were glowing in the gloom, the country noise was amazing!  The sound of the wild animals calling to each other in the forest and then the chorus of the crickets and frogs from the ponds…it was louder than traffic, but so lovely.
