 It was like being in the Twilight Zone….the sun was over bright, the sand was too white, the sea and sky was a combination of blue that made your mind hurt and the silence, the complete and utter silence was like being in a vacuum.  The sea had no waves and made no sound….of all the people on this beach, no one was talking, there was deathly silence.  Rosies camera beeped to indicate her picture was in focus, it was so loud on that beach the dude in the red speedos lifted his head to see what the noise was……bizarre.

The Jersey Shore – Asbury Park

…..that evening we counted 4 brides and their huge entourages all having photos taken at the derelict abandoned buildings that graced the waterfront.  The town centre is a couple of blocks walk from where we were staying, there were great cafes and restaurants aplenty along the drag between lovely design stores and clothing outlets…..there were also rainbow flags aplenty along with hundreds of well groomed, dressed men everywhere.  There was no mistaking The Operator, his stubble wasnt designer nor the cut of his jeans or the sway of his hips.

American Musings – New York City

Stand still and let the ebb and flow of city swarm around you.  The traffic sweeps past in a never ending river, people 8 abreast push past on the footpath, look up and you feel so insignificant and small dwarfed on all sides by towering glass.  The noise is relentless, the car horns, sirens, people talking into their hands free mobiles, doors slamming, rubbish being collected, bottles being emptied from the bars.  Combine the noise with the movement and light from never ending waves of neon signs, day morphs into night and it is still as bright as mid day, you know why it is called the city that never sleeps, it dosent, it is alive and it will devour you if you let it.

American Musings – East Coast Vs West Coast

Bare in mind the West Coast is essentially one state, with one mindset and a unified way of life.  It is beautifully set up to encourage tourism and keep you informed.  The East Coast is so heavily populated in comparison with multiple states that you criss cross in your travels.  It lacks cohesion when it comes to informing the travelling tourist.  It was hard work finding points of interest and getting to them, it did not detract from the journey…it just made it different.

New Zealand – Mokau North Island

The campground is wedged between the high tide mark and a bluff that has the State Highway passing by, seaview campsites are limited as windswept arthritic looking trees line the boundary to the sea and lean in and over the permanent campsites that line the edge of the sea.  We were still close enough to get a beautiful peek of the sea  and all you can hear is the freight train rhythmic boom of the sea through your windows, Highway, what Highway, you couldn’t see or hear it!
