Rosie and The Operator boarded the Alaskan Marine Highway Ferry in Ketchikan at mid day and are travelling over the next 18 hours on this public transport ferry to disembark in Juneau at 0600 in the morning.  Our journey has us travelling 478 kilometers along the cruise ship highway through the famous Inside Passage of the Bay of Alaska.

Rosie and The Operator are in Juneau Alaska, the state with more wildlife than people, more miles of trails than roads and more glaciers than you can ever see in a lifetime. 

Rosie and The Operator have hired a car in Juneau.  Believe it or not, there are so many cars here for such a small road network that stretches a grand total of 67km in a straight line from one end of Juneau to the other. 

Rosie and The Operator have an early start today, our aim is to get out to the Mendenhall Glacier bright and early, walk the tracks, get the snaps, avoid the crowds and bask in the silence. 

Rounding the corner of the elbow in Tracey Arm, there she was, the South Sawyer Glacier in a big ta da revealing moment, stretched out in front of us.  The sea water was starting to turn into an icy sludge with large and small pieces of fallen glacial ice bobbing around on the surface.
