Rosie and The Operator are travelling around Slovakia for the next 6 days and our journey starts in the Medieval gem of Kosice in the East of the country near the Hungarian Border.

Rosie and The Operator are off to Bardejov, just over one hours drive north of Kosice and are looking forward to day 2 of our 6 day journey through Slovakia. Today we are going to visit the ‘Most Beautiful Town Square’ in Slovakia and are on the trail of Slovakia’s famous Capathian Wooden Churches.

It’s a new day and a new drive for Rosie and The Operator who are off to see the ruins of the famous Spis Castle en route to the UNESCO listed, walled, medieval town of Levoca in Slovakia.

Bratislava is the Capitol city of Slovakia and, with a population of 424,000 is the countries biggest city . Rosie would say it also has the distinction of having the cutest and most compact old town of any capitol city she has ever visited.

Bucharest Old Town has many faces, the area is a mix of renovated buildings with the majority being quite run down and, in some cases still abandoned, boarded and ruined.  The grey stonework is chipped, guttering sags and carbon blackens the stone….but the buildings are still glorious! 

Rosie and The Operator have a long day driving from Bucharest through to Sibiu. We are going to traverse the infamous Transfagarasan Highway in Romania to get to our destination. This route is one of the countries most spectacular and internationally renowned driving roads after it featured on Top Gear as one of the best drives in the World! 

Corvin Castle is one of the largest castles in Europe and features as one of the Seven Wonders of Romania. It looks like a fairy tale castle as you stand in front of it and see it in all its glory from across the gorge.  It is huge and beautifully proportioned, with pointy spires and elegant stonework.  It sits so tall and proud amongst the lush green landscape that carries on behind it, uninterrupted, for miles. 

The Transylvanian countryside in Romania seems endless, untamed and multiple shades of green as it rolls along outside our window as we drive the two and a bit hours from Sibiu to Brasov. Our route today is all backroads where en route we will be stopping at Bran Castle, legendary home to arguably Transylvania’s most infamous inhabitant, Count Dracula.

Rosie and The Operator have just rolled into Brasov (pronounced Bra shov), deep in the heart of the Transylvanian countryside on their twelve day journey around Romania.

Rosie and The Operator are currently criss crossing Transylvania in Romania and today we are driving a couple of hours from Brasov to Sighisoara, (pronounced See-Ghee-Shwaa-Ra), home to 28,500 and known as The Pearl of Transylvania.

Rosie and The Operator are off to visit a blip on the map 30 mins drive from Sighisoara in the Transylvanian countryside called Viscri. Viscri is a medieval town that has been frozen in time within a country that holds on tight to its traditions and history and the fortified church above the village is one of the finest in Romania.
