Whats abit of rain when out camping, get hard or go home….Rosie and The Operator did just that, and went home….

The rain overnight was torrential, high tide was at 3am, Rosie was worried the river would burst its banks and carry our camper….well, to the gates of the campground in a muddy drift wood laden tsunami.  At the end of the day Rosie and Operator couldn’t have been that worried as the rain dampened the humidity and we both slept like logs to awaken at 6am to the sound of the rain still drumming on the roof of the camper.  As Rosie wiped the condensation from the window and peeped out the curtain it was nice to know we wernt floating in the Tasman but still on our albeit saturated camp site….but the puddles were getting closer and closer.

The best decision of the previous day had to come from the family that were camping in the blue tent below.  Mum, Dad and four kids came out of the tent at 5pm in the evening in the pouring down rain, looked skyward, saw no easement…then quick as a flash they dismantled their tent, hopped in the car and drove home…..great call seeing as this was their tent site in the morning, completely flooded!

At 7am Rosie and The Operator made the call to up sticks and head on home to our own hot shower and breakfast with Kitty.  Out of the relative shelter of the camp the wind rocked the camper quite abit on the open road and the Operator was fighting to keep the ole girl above 80kms.  We were pretty much the only ones on the road at that time so what the hell, we made good time home.  Passing through Stratford we were passed in the opposite direction by another camper on his early morning road trip, he waved and flashed his lights at us…hhmmm, we are in the camping club now, very friendly.  Only to discover when we got home 30mins later that our hatch on the roof had blown open  and rain was pishing in…he was probably flashing his lights to alert us….never mind, these things happen…at least we had remembered to pull the power plug out before we drove away…..
