The Boss and HM did suggest that Rosie and The Operator pre book restaurants in advance before we left the country as many of Melbourne’s finest were booked months in advance.
Small town rural Rosie was a little sceptical so her and The Operator thought they would wing it.
Newly arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday Rosie rings Hellenic Republic owned by celebrity chef George Colombaris of Masterchef fame.
‘Hi do you have a table for two available for Friday please?’
‘Which Friday will that be?’
Indignant Rosie, ‘This Friday.’
‘Sorry, we are fully booked for the next seven Fridays and all days in between’
Denial makes Rosie really want to go….badly, so, she takes The Boss and HM advice and books five weeks out from her next visit to Melbourne.
‘Certainly we have one table for two left on Friday night, you must be here by 6 and vacate by 8pm’.
‘OK’…..no choice in the matter, beggars cant be choosers.
Five weeks later, Rosie and The Operator are back in Melbourne and shopping on Chapel Street. The Operator gets a text, it is from Hellenic Republic confirming our reservation for Friday night and wanting a text affirmation as to whether or not we will be keeping our dinner reservation made five weeks prior.
The experience so far smacks a little scarily of over efficiency and the ultimate machine in revenue gathering. It is with trepidation we venture to dinner. Will Rosie and the Operator be disappointed……
