When HM says not to bother doing or seeing something….take her word for it! Rosie and The Operator had read the guidebooks and we were looking forward to a trip on the tram out to St Kilda and take some sunshine while walking the pier. The book said that you would ‘enjoy the charm of yesterday’ in this suburb. I think we got there 15 years too late….faded glory isn’t even an apt description, it was empty, tired, drab and sad. Lunar Park http://www.lunapark.com.au/ the jewel of St Kilda was undergoing renovations, the big creepy giant face was covered, so I didn’t even get to take a photo.
We jumped off the tram at the shops on Carlisle Street in Balaclava, re adjust your purse cause its pretty rough and dodgy looking. Rosie needed a coffee break and heard she could get an authentic Kiwi flat white (the Aussie equivalent is a little weak for my liking) at a cafe called The Bach owned by Jason Chan an ex pat Dunedinite who has been described as one of the best Batista’s in Melbourne. The Bach was pumping http://espressomelbourne.com/cafes-that-matter/balaclava/batch/ around the lunch hour and was packed out….we didnt wait, but jumped on a tram and headed back to the city.
