New Orleans has something for every visitor of all ages, persuasions and interests. Not often does a town get it right in catering for all types and keeping the areas separate from each other so as not to shock tender sensibilities. New Orleans has done it perfectly.
Want to get boozed and enjoy the bars and cheap drinks, tripping from place to place? Bourbon Street is for you, anytime of the day and night. Street music and entertainers gather, mimes and beggars mingle…no aggro, everyone is there to have a good time well into the early hours.
You want to enjoy vintage shopping, antiques and art galleries with an upmarket vibe? Go one street over to Royal and you have found your niche. Lovely cafes, restaurants and beignet shops abound and the street is quieter and more refined allowing reflection of the beautiful ironwork above your cafe table and the beautifully coloured shutters with luscious greenery dripping over balconies.
Fancy some jazz and a night out with the locals? Check out Frenchmans St. The smell of BBQ and the scream of the horns greet you at sundown as you stroll this street of faded colours, watching the sun set as those colours bleed together under the sulpher street lights as the magic of this area unfolds. Fancy a bit of voodoo or a magical potion? Call into the voodoo shops that line the road back into town and are open all hours, they are small and dusty packed full of wonder and weirdness.
Dont think that is all there is….these are just the main drags…..every turn of the French Quarter leads you to a square waiting to be explored, the history is amazing, the architecture, the markets are fab, the parks and suburbs have their own character, travel further afield and get a true sense of the whole Big Easy.
The beauty of this town is you can, and should, sample all of the above experiences and so much more that it has to offer. This is one great city to kick your knees up in and have a blast before going back to your normality.
