New York Navigation For Dummies – aka Rosie

Avenues run Uptown to Downtown. 1st Avenue is East and increases in number sequence going West…..are you with me…..

The Streets run crosstown with 1st Street being downtown in the South of Manhattan and increase sequentially as you head North or Uptown…..easy eh!

The Operator was in his element, he thought it was the best and easiest system ever devised to find out exactly where you are without having to remember any street names.  He hit his stride and never put us wrong in getting anywhere.

Rosie on the other hand…..didnt get it…..she could not find her way anywhere…..The Operator wouldnt even trust her to go out and get a coffee from Starbucks on her own in case she became lost. This was reinforced below.

We took the subway home and popped up on 8th Avenue at 50th street, we are staying on 48th street….Rosie needed some Gatorade after her big walk and was a little hot and cranky….The Operator went into the store and Rosie said she would carry on to the hotel……all I had to do was walk straight down 8th cross the road at 49th walk to 48th and turn right onto it and the hotel was 100 metres away.

Rosie got lost, She still blames it on the million people jostling all around her on the footpath. Rosie took the wrong turning, didnt understand how the streets worked and 20 mins later was gonna stand there and cry like a lost kid when she was rescued by her darling Operator.

Back to the hotel they went with Rosie even more hot and cranky and The Operator saying I am not aloud out of his sight.
