Rosie and The Operator have come full circle, we drove back into San Francisco this morning with out a hitch and handed our rental back at the airport.  It was a great road trip  and we enjoyed every minute of it, the sights, the people and the culture, it was a brilliant experience!

We caught a taxi back into town, The Operator always nudges Rosie to put on her seat belt in the back seat…thank god….we were doing 65 on the freeway and the crazy driver does a huge swerve into another lane to avoid a car bumper in his path, literally, one had come of a car…cars from the other lane were breaking to avoid the swerve, we ran over half the bumper, what a god awful noise and we were waiting for the tyre to go down…I clutched the Operators hand…we have just driven 3,500 miles and in the first 5 mins on the freeway in some bloody foreigners taxi we nearly have an accident….we arrived, safe and sound at our new hotel The Kensington Park.

It is still in the Union Square locality just a little off the main drag, compared to the first hotel.  We are on the 11th floor, it is quiet and we have a corner room, Rosie loves it, it is plush!

The photo to the right is a view of Union Square from our room window.  Below is the city skyline from the other window.

Back in San Francisco Rosie was on a mission and the reluctant Operator was drafted again as navigator and chief treasure hunter.  During our travels Rosie has been inspired by the season, Halloween….only a small percentage of houses have been decorated but they  have embraced the holiday theme and have been pretty cool.

Rosie was after tombstones and giant spiders….So, we started in Santa Cruz and visited every Halloween store…we were too late in the month, everyone had bought all their decorations and they had been up in their yards since the beginning of October…the shops were sold out!  We stopped at Half Moon Bay on the way to SF…sold out…Rosie was panicking, the Operator shook his head… SF was our last port of call, and 4 blocks up from the hotel was a Halloween shop, thanks Bob, the concierge.   Literally off we scuttled, the shop keepers were dressed as Harry Potter, and other super hero’s in capes and tights….and look what we found……joy!  Guess how many Rosie bought….now to fit them in the suitcase…….

Next door to our hotel is the Farallon, they have a Happy Hour between 4.30 and 7.00
Check out the decor on the website, we love the jellyfish chaneliers and the clam banquettes, tis the place to be seen as it was packed out and a line down the street.  All drinks and tapas during happy hour are $6.  Their oyster bar was to die for 12 Drakes Bay Oysters at a buck each…a really good size they were too, in the halfshell, served on top of an ice bed with a beautiful champagne mignonette,  the steamed littleneck clams were served with a housemade chorizo, sav and toast….even the chips werent just chips…truffled yukon gold french fries….the food was glorious and had a real mixed tapas list, the bar was pumping and the service was efficient yet personal for such a busy place.  Dinner and drinks done!
