How can Croatia be the New Italy, Croatia is Croatia! Sometimes though you may be forgiven if you forget you are in Croatia and think you are on holiday in coastal Italy.
Lets face it, this long ribbon of Croatian coastline is dotted with with the most beautiful, ancient 15th century…..Italian villages. Its true, the Venetians ruled here forever and left its mark, literally, on this countries psyche and landscape.
Its not just the Italian villages, the food is predominantly Italian, you get pizza, pasta, great antipasto and olive oil. Fresh fish galore and the best handmade cheeses and homegrown veges and fruit. Not to mention the espresso is top notch and the wine is fab as well!
Rosie is going to say it. Anyone who has been here before has thought it. Croatia is a cleaner, less populated, less visited, more enjoyable version of Italy!
Everything is brighter, fresher and less tired here than in Italy, the streets, buildings and monuments have all seen less carbon over the millennium and the beaches are pristine.
Don’t get me wrong Croatia is by no means an undiscovered tourist paradise. It was busy in the big centers but still not total tourist bedlam like Venice and Rome which are just becoming too overwhelmingly busy.
Wait, you cry I have come to visit Croatia and not Italy! Yes, that is what Rosie thought too…but she found it hard to pick out anything that made this country markedly different that you would call essentially Croatian. Rosie is not disappointed, all of the reasons above is what has made this the perfect holiday in Croatia. This country is a beautiful, clean Paradise with amazing food, wine history and culture.
However, for a little bit of Italy from 50 years ago, or, I dare say it a better version of Italy today….go to Croatia….you will love it and wont regret coming at all.
