It snowed yesterday.  Snow, can you believe it?  I always looked at our wee island sitting in the South Pacific as sub tropical…..yet, falling from the winter sky for the first time in 16 years were big plump flakes of snow.  It covered everything in its white cloak while its crisp coldness made everything fresh and newborn.  It was both startling and magical, old and young alike were in awe of this unusual phenomenon.

No one moaned about the cold, no one gripped about the wetness.  Everyone had a smile on their face and the only chatter of the day was about The Snow and how exciting it was.  The day was incredible, the world around me had woken up and was joyous, captivated, invigorated, revelling in their surroundings.  The town had woken from hibernation and was basking in the wintry white glow.  Eyes were wide, laughter rang out, kids were outside playing in groups and throwing snowballs, making snow men, sliding down hills on rubbish bags……

Today, the weak sun has come out and the snow is melting, the light has been extinguished and the laughter silenced.  My bones have started to ache with the cold.

Why cant today be like yesterday, every day.
