Rosie is a cat person. She loves her Special Kitty and misses her terribly when we are away. Rosie has also been known to occasionally pat other peoples pussy’s when they happen across each others paths.
Normally with admonishment’s of ‘Dont Touch’ barked from The Operator who always visually assesses the condition of the cat first and foremost that Rosie is swooping in on…..mange and potential flea infestations are his markers. All Rosie sees are the beautiful tabby stripes of her Kitty at home…..
Kotor though has taken cat craziness to a whole new level…and turned it into a bizarre local tourist attraction. Really?! Yes. Hordes of cats are everywhere, they just breed and breed and are looked indulgently on by the locals who leave piles of food in corners of alleys for them to swoop on and devour in droves.
Rosie has never dined alone in this town, there is always a set of cats beady eyes to keep her company or a plaintiff meow from the greedy.
Restaurants seem to have adopted a couple of cats and are fed by them and their patrons. These cats prowl their tabled perimeter and no other cats enter, each seems to know their patch.
Shops sell an abundance of cat based souvenirs and this shop always has a herd of cats hanging around posing cutely for the tourists to take photos of them…please do make a donation for their upkeep the cigarette smoking owner tells the photographers through the open window.
The cats themselves, as cats are noted for, are not very respectful to this champion of their kind as they do like to piss inside her cat souvenir shop and it is very…. repugnantly fragrant.
Cat Piss Square as Rosie calls it is where the majority of the strays hang. It is not a square where Rosie would choose to sit and contemplate in…the sharp odoriferous tang of piss is too overwhelming.
Yet many do, they like to sit on the benches and have their laps swarmed by cats looking for a cuddle….Rosie feels itchy watching these intrepid cat patters.
Everyone that visits this town will take home at least one photo of a cat on their camera roll. Its unavoidable, you are either taking the cutsie kitty pic or proving to the disbelieving at home the plague of felines that infest this town. All in all The Cats of Kotor are a thing….and as for the two dogs that live in this town….they are all best friends.
