Old Town Spring Houston Texas

Spring is a suburb of Houston, nothing really but a giant strip mall on the edge of the Interstate.  Turn the corner though and nestled in amongst the industry is Old Town Spring, the original villages cottages and shacks have been turned into an eclectic arrangement of a destination shopping  area.

Its a little hippy and a little rundown but full of imagination and fun. Plus, it is Rosie’s favourite time of the year to visit the States, fall, which means Halloween is just around the corner, fun decorations, pumpkins and fall door wreathes abound.

The heat and sunshine is a shock to Rosie’s post winter disposition….blazing sun, and 32c.  Every shop is so cool, full air conditioned bliss,  as soon as you step through the door though the heat hits you full force.  No one is in a hurry here, all who are walking in the street are walking Rosie’s speed, unhurried and slow….abit like Spring itself.

Can you see the squirrel on the tree trunk?  There are so many in this town.

We went to our first Texas BBQ joint last night for dinner.  In the car park of Rudy’s Texas BBQ all you could smell was sweet fragrant wood and juicy meat cooking in the dusky air.  It was the most delicious smelling air ever, Rosie’s mouth was watering as we walked in the door….Rosie wishes she had just eaten the air….45 mins later Rosie and The Operator rolled out of there stuffed to burst.

Order your food at the counter, meats are sold by the 1/2 pound and just add your sides, its basic and sooo tender and good.

The counter boy was delighted we had come so far to taste the best BBQ in Texas (as he claimed), he was firing samples of the meat at us and we decided on a tray of moist brisket, baby back ribs, the best potato salad ever, coleslaw and the ‘must try’ warmed homemade cream corn….which was creamy heaven in a bowl.  We sat at communal tables covered in gingham plastic….listened to country music and drowned our woes of lost luggage with Dos Equis and comfort eating.

Just a short blog tonight….I always forget how to use the program in between holidays and it takes me awhile to get back in the swing of things.  I cant let Pappy Ginsu down by not blogging…..

Join me tomorrow, Rosie and The Operator are driving to Dallas for abit of cowboy accessory shopping (to blend in…) and conspiracy theory analysis.
