Rosie and the Operator are flying out to the US today.  A 21 day road trip around Texas, over to Nashville, Memphis and then down the mighty Mississippi to New Orleans  awaits us.
Rosie and the Operator love America and are looking forward to meeting new people and visiting places they haven’t been before. We are looking forward to a holiday full of Blues, BBQ and Bourbon….with abit of rock n roll, country music, TexMex, Creole and Southern Style cooking thrown in for good measure.
Just like that, we arrive in Houston after a 13 hour flight…we booked a ‘cuddle couch’ to guarantee three seats and our economy comfort.  Score for us, the business class and premier economy areas were totally full leaving quite abit of free space in economy….we had our own fold down couches…. each…flat beds, and the first five hour sleep Rosie has ever had on a plane.  The Operator was in heaven, his own bed and no one to nudge him in the ribs when he snored.  The added bonus, we arrived in Houston 6 hours before we actually left New Zealand on holiday….the joys of an 18 hour timezone change….excellent holiday value!
We collected a rental car at Houston airport……it was at this moment disaster struck Rosie and The Operator. We loaded our bags into the rental and were all ready to pull out onto the interstate when the Operator noticed our Navman, plugged into the the cigarette lighter, wasn’t charging….that power point wasn’t working.  Rosie was not having the complication of not knowing where to go in the back of nowhere when our navigation died…and god forbid she had to ever read a map.  Back we went to the rental company and swapped cars. Thirty minuets up the road we pulled into our first stop, Spring, a suburb of Houston.  Unloading the bags Rosie asked where  the The Operators back pack was, the hotel booking confirmation was in it….uuummmm, (frantic rummaging ensued) the backpack is missing……oh,no……the back pack was left in the swapped rental.  Serious!  In the backpack is our passports, cash money, The Operators iphone, itineraries and everything we carried onto the plane as hand luggage….Rosie’s stomach dropped.
Thankfully, The Operator pulled our passports out of his jacket pocket……everything else is gone and yet to be recovered….its only ‘things’ and will be covered by insurance….but, what a rookie mess up and great start to our holiday.  Rental car ‘lost and found’ is open Monday…..nothing gets logged over the weekend….The Operators iphone hasn’t been turned on…..oh, yes, we are tracking it……. Lol, cause thats all we can do…….
Tomorrow we start our holiday…..
