Opunake Beach and the Opunake Beach Holiday Park is the jewel in the crown when travelling State Highway 45.  You must stay at least one night and, when you do will probably want to stay another.

The beach itself is a black sand surf beach, nestled within two promontories, it makes for good swimming which is fully patrolled in the summer at the peak of the camping season.  The beach is a public one with toilets, gas BBQs, a fantastic kids playground with paddling pool and picnic shelters available for everyday use.

The Holiday Park is large and sheltered with powered and non powered sites for tents, campervans and caravans.  Sites are grass with ample room for awnings and outdoor tables.  Make sure you book in advance for a spot over the Christmas and New Year period as it does get fully booked over this busy time.  The Holiday Park has a shop come office and beautiful new amenity blocks with plenty of showers and toilets all available for use at no extra cost.  There is a big kitchen block, TV room and washing facilities as well.  Sorry I do not have any photos 🙁

Over the summer period there are local council run Jazz evenings on the beach and New Year beach carnivals.  Opunake township is just a short walk up the hill out of the campsite.  Park your camper and enjoy a laid back Taranaki style beach break.
